Davis came to North Carolina sporting an impressive resume of coaching in both collegiate and pro ranks. Davis was the head coach at both the University of Miami (1995-2000) and the Cleveland Browns (2001-2004). At Miami, he compiled a record of 51-20 in six seasons, including five bowl appearances, before taking the head coaching position at Cleveland, where he went 25-39 through four seasons.
