The Eve Carson Memorial 5K for Education has been held each year since the former student body president’s death in 2008. The race raises money for the junior-year scholarship that was a goal of hers while in office and was established after her death. The race is co-sponsored by the UNC chapters of Pi Beta Phi sorority and Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Several hundred people run in the race each year, which raised about $15,000 in 2010.

Last year’s Eve Carson Memorial 5K for Education was nothing short of a celebration. And on Saturday, the celebration will continue.“I remember laughing more than anything in the race,” said junior Hogan Medlin, who ran in last year’s 5K. “It felt like there were thousands of people there, and when we all began, it was just this big hoorah. It was extremely uplifting.”
