Irene “Rena” Avramidis and Sarah Kaminer, both juniors, will receive a stipend for summer enrichments as well as a scholarship covering half of their attendance costs during senior year. The scholarship was established in 2008 to commemorate and celebrate the life of former student body president Eve Carson, who was murdered in March 2008.

Members of the campus community will celebrate what would have been former Student Body President Eve Carson’s 26th birthday on Saturday by raising money for a cause she was passionate about.

Lori Burgwyn had only a few chances to talk with Eve Carson, yet she took a lead role in promoting her legacy Friday night. Nearly 300 people donned costumes, danced and celebrated at the third annual Eve Ball with a goal of preserving Carson’s memory underlying the festivities.

Nearly three years after her death, Eve Carson’s legacy on campus will be carried on by students who never knew her.
Late Sunday night, juniors Mark Clarke and Zach De La Rosa were selected as this year’s recipients of the Eve Carson Scholarship.

The eight founding members of a secret society called Infinity made an $888.88 cash donation to the Eve Carson Scholarship.

A local business is giving community members another chance to remember both Halloween celebrations and a lost leader. Franklin Street Yoga Center will bring Halloween back tonight by hosting the second annual Eve Ball dance party at the Carolina Club.

Chancellor Holden Thorp, Chapel Hill Mayor Mark Kleinschmidt and UNC Student Body President Hogan Medlin joined students at noon to dance portions of Michael Jackson’s iconic music video “Thriller” to promote Friday’s Eve Ball, a fundraiser for the Eve Carson Scholarship.

The Eve Carson Scholarship is accepting applications from juniors. The scholarship is geared toward students who have experienced transformative growth at UNC. Applications are due Nov. 21 at 3 p.m., and the recommendation form is due Nov. 18 at 5 p.m.

The Eve Carson Scholarship was created in 2008 in honor of Eve Carson, the 2007-08 student body president who was murdered during her term in office. The scholarship aims to help student leaders commit to their positions by helping pay tuition costs.

Junior Katherine Novinski has been named the new director of the Eve Marie Carson Scholarship for the 2010-11 school year.

The scholarship provides half the estimated cost of in-state attendance at UNC to two juniors, as well as up to $5,000 for a summer experience for both.

Juniors Caroline Fish and Chase Jones have been named the recipients of the Eve Marie Carson Scholarship for the 2010-11 school year.

The two in-state students were selected by a committee for their commitment to academic excellence, leadership and public service. They will receive funding to cover half the estimated cost of attendance at UNC, as well as $5,000 for a summer project.

This spring, one University junior will be the inaugural recipient of the Eve Marie Carson Scholarship, created in honor of the former student body president. The scholarship will be awarded to a junior based on merit. “I think it’s a wonderful way to honor Eve and her leadership at Carolina,” said Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Margaret Jablonski. The scholarship committee does not yet know how large the award will be or for how many years it will be awarded.

A scholarship envisioned by Eve Carson while running for student body president has been established, and though details have yet to be hammered out, funds likely will come from the Eve Carson Memorial Fund.
