It was a seesaw battle of possession in the first half of the NCAA field hockey championship between North Carolina and Maryland, but the Tar Heels got on the board first and took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
When Elizabeth Stephens scored her second goal of the game in the 63rd minute of the NCAA championship game, the Tar Heels needed to defend strongly for just eight more minutes to protect their two-goal lead and claim the national title.
