N.C. Hillel is a group dedicated to enriching the lives of Jewish students. This organization conducts many service projects including Dimes for Darfur, Holocaust Remembrance Week and Habitat for Humanity builds.
N.C. Hillel also hosts events to celebrate several Jewish holidays like Passover. It holds a Seder, or a ritual meal to celebrate Passover, and distributes kosher lunches and dinners to help continue Jewish traditions. The group has also sponsors an Israel festival. Typically held in September, Israel Fest includes numerous activities such as a Jewish a cappella group, name translation into Hebrew and plenty of falafel, pitas, kosher pickles and hummus.
February is well known for celebrating black history, but for the first time this year, it has also been designated as Muslim Awareness Month to recognize the nation’s growing diversity.
Although the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is not much closer to a solution after years of peace talks and false starts, UNC students are finding ways to become engaged in the debate.
