In March, a student government committee had trouble finding the right students to join Student Body President Will Leimenstoll’s closest team of advisers.
Following a student body president election hurt by modest voter turnout, Will Leimenstoll took office Tuesday with a fix in mind.
With in-state tuition set in stone, student government will have a chance to examine another area in which it has some influence: student fees. The UNC-system Board of Governors passed a two-year tuition plan this year that sets increases for the 2012-2013 academic year. If approved by the N.C. General Assembly, campuses would not be able to change the rate of the fee increase, but would be able to reallocate the money.
On the night that Speaker Zach De La Rosa said farewell to Student Congress, he did not have to say goodbye to Student Body President Mary Cooper.
When Student Body President–elect Will Leimenstoll was choosing his executive branch officers, he said he kept the legacy of Eve Carson in mind. Leimenstoll said that while reading the eulogies for the former student body president, who was killed in 2008, he was inspired by the idea that UNC should be an “institution of excellence with a heart.”
