North Carolina freshman Dominick Glavich knew he needed to pull out a win. The Virginia men’s swim team had won events 10, 11 and 12 in Saturday’s meet against UNC, and the Tar Heels desperately needed to break the streak.
Although the final scores would reflect otherwise, North Carolina did not swim to its potential Monday against Clemson. The Tar Heel men won 178-118 and the women won 183-104. Both teams are now 5-1 on the season and 4-0 in conference play.
For most varsity athletes at North Carolina, beating Duke would be ample cause for a night of celebration.
The North Carolina swimming and diving teams cruised to easy first-place finishes this weekend at the annual Janis Hape Dowd Nike Cup Invitational held at Koury Natatorium.
As the last member of North Carolina’s first-place men’s 400-yard medley relay team touched the wall to conclude the first night of the three-day Janis Hape Dowd Nike Cup Invitational, the Tar Heel swimmers that were crowded around the edge of the pool began chanting.
