The North Carolina volleyball team lost to Virginia Tech 3-1 Friday night in a match coach Joe Sagula believes was far from his team’s standard level of play.
UNC’s loss to the Waves knocked it out of the tournament in the second round for the second year in a row.
Kaylie Gibson modestly laughs, shrugs off the suggestion and says she doesn’t know if she considers herself a hometown hero. “It’s cool being so close to home,” said the North Carolina volleyball senior libero, an Apex native. “I really don’t know what else to say about it though.”
The North Carolina volleyball team had never lost consecutive matches this season until last weekend’s two defeats at the hands of conference foes Miami and Florida State. And the Tar Heels wanted to make sure the streak ended there. UNC (21-7, 13-4 ACC) defeated Georgia Tech (15-13, 8-9) 3-1 on Friday and then came back Saturday to handle Clemson (18-10, 10-7) 3-0.
