For the first 57 minutes of their 12-7 win against Dartmouth, it looked like a game the North Carolina men’s lacrosse attackers would soon forget. With less than three minutes left, the Tar Heel offense underwent nothing short of an offensive explosion, giving UNC four goals in the game’s dying minutes. “We started listening to our coaching,” junior Jimmy Dunster said.

CHARLOTTE – North Carolina leads 53-42 after one half of its second-round matchup in the NCAA tournament against Long Island University.

The Tar Heels looked to be pulling away early, as they jumped out to an early 29-19 lead against the Blackbirds, but they countered with a 14-4 run to tie up the ballgame.

Tar Heels prep for Illinois at 9:30 p.m.

CHAMPAIGN, ILL – The North Carolina Tar Heels will be facing their first true road game of the young season.

For Harrison Barnes, it is a homecoming of sorts. Barnes admitted after the College of Charleston game that he had been deluged with ticket requests from friends and family.

ECU game time finalized

North Carolina’s football program announced on Monday that the game against East Carolina would be at 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 2nd. The game is the next home contest for the Tar Heels, and also the ensuing week after this Saturday’s game against Rutgers. The press release says that the game will be streamed by espn3.com.

Quinn denies improper tutor help

North Carolina defensive end Robert Quinn said Tuesday that he is not involved with the possible academic misconduct between student-athletes and a former UNC mentor who was also employed by the Butch Davis family.

“I mean, I’ve worked with her, but I don’t have anything to do with that,” Quinn said.

DT Willis to transfer from UNC

In his opening statement to the media after Thursday’s morning practice, North Carolina football coach Butch Davis disclosed that freshman defensive tackle Brandon Willis has decided to transfer from the University.

Strickland playing through injury

Dexter Strickland has been playing on a faulty knee for the past few weeks, UNC coach Roy Williams said at a press conference Wednesday. Strickland, who will still play in the NCAA tournament, has had an unspecified knee problem for the past few weeks. “I haven’t talked to the doctors or anything, but that kid is fighting a lot of things right now,” Williams said.
