Students were shocked when a group of protesters carrying racist signs and screaming racial slurs burst out of Lenoir Dining Hall and into the Pit at noon Monday. Holding satirical posters with messages such as, "Separate is not equal, but it's easy" and "Race mixing is communism," the white protesters surrounded nine black students as they were led by mock federal troops.

    Week encourages kids to go outside and play

    Take a Child Outside Week has one goal: Get the kids out of the house and into nature. The international endeavor, spearheaded by the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences, kicked off Monday with community events around the country.     Controversial murder case to get special prosecutor

    WILSON (AP) - A special prosecutor will be assigned to take over a controversial murder case against a man whose supporters say he was wrongly accused and have mounted a campaign on his behalf. James Johnson had been scheduled for trial today. But his supporters - including family, community leaders, NAACP officials and lawyers - have raised questions about the state's evidence against him.     Delaware State student in custody for Friday shooting

    DOVER, Del. (AP) - Police arrested an 18-year-old in the shooting of two students at Delaware State University, authorities said Monday. As they led him into a courthouse, he told reporters: "I'm sorry." Loyer D. Braden, arrested about 3 a.m. in his dorm room, was charged with attempted murder, assault and reckless endangerment, as well as a gun charge. (0 Comments)
