Pulling out just isn't the answer

Unless you spent your Fall Break on a remote tropical island, chances are you've heard about the Maine middle school that voted to offer a full range of birth control options to their students. Many are shocked by the suggestion that middle schoolers have sex, frightened at the prospect of kids getting birth control and angry at the school board that passed the decision. (4 Comments)

Environmental Quality is right to take blame for fire

"The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire." Actually, the roof isn't on fire, but the town of Apex was. Drought means that we need to change water use

TO THE EDITOR: Once verdant and overflowing, Bolin Creek has shriveled into a succession of stagnant pools. Like the streams meant to replenish Orange County's water supply, this creek now creeps along, like an hourglass running out of time. Drought, which has stricken most of North Carolina, has forced local authorities like OWASA to set limits on water use until the rain comes again. (0 Comments)

Astroturf still won't grow, even when you water it

TO THE EDITOR: Our state is currently experiencing a drought of epic proportions. Gov. (Mike) Easley has called for cautious restraint in our daily use of water. City and county municipalities are within a month or so of exhausting their supply of water and will be shortly instituting mandatory restrictions. (8 Comments)
