World AIDS Day creator to visit Duke, UNC campuses

The School of Journalism and Mass Communication will co-sponsor an event to commemorate the 20th anniversary of World AIDS Day today.

James Bunn, who created the event, will be at UNC for part of the day before his keynote address at Duke University.

Bunn, who was an early reporter on the public interest of HIV, plans to address classes in the journalism school and the Gillings School of Global Public Health while at UNC.

Groups solicit gift donations through annual Wishing Tree

Alpha Kappa Alpha Inc. and Carolina Wishing Tree will sponsor the fifth annual “Wishing Tree” in the Pit this week.

The tree is decorated with ornaments suggesting items to donate. Students take an ornament and then bring the item back to the Pit.

The items, ranging from mechanical pencils to board games, are donated to local partners, such as the Hargraves Community Center.

Past years have seen more than $2,000 in donated items.
