Lecture set to explore Iraq War’s effects on women

Cynthia Enloe, a professor at Clark University, will give a lecture titled “When Women Think About Security: Some Feminist Lessons from the Iraq War” at 6 p.m. today in room 4003 of the FedEx Global Education Center.

In her lecture she will explore women’s security in war-torn countries and how governments might change their policies if they took women’s safety into account.

Enloe studies women’s attempts to gain political influence in developing countries and how women’s lives are affected by the military, governments and corporations.

The talk is sponsored by Triangle Institute for Security Studies, a group that advances education and research in the field of national and international security and includes faculty members from Duke and N.C. State universities and UNC.
