Felipe Molina Mendoza and his boyfriend Francisco Vargas Guadalupe spent Valentine’s Day at Mendoza’s immigration hearing in Charlotte. He was allowed to remain in the U.S. on Tuesday while awaiting a possible ruling from the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on his case.

Lisa Kukla describes East Chapel Hill High School as a pressure cooker. She said many of her students were the children of doctors, professors and lawyers — Kukla liked the students, but it was a competitive environment. The attack at Columbine had occurred seven years earlier, but it was still on the minds of teachers. Kukla said teachers used to wonder if something like that might happen at East Chapel Hill.

In the fourth day of the Kania trial State Trooper Stephen Foster testified about the immediate aftermath of the crash. Steven Sin, a member of Kania's fraternity, also testified on text messages he received from Kania regarding drug use.

I-85 is a series on the Chandler Kania case. In the first episode, we discuss the events of July 19, 2015 when authorities say Chandler Kania was driving drunk on the wrong side of I-85 when he crashed into another car. Three people were killed. Their names were Darlene McGee, 46, Felecia Harris, 49, and 6-year-old Jahnice Beard.
