On a Friday night in Chapel Hill, the atmosphere is quiet, echoey, still. Just beyond campus, Fraternity Court is thumping with music and bass that can be heard all the way from Raising Cane’s. If one creeps closer, they may hear “No Hands” by Waka Flocka Flame pulsating through the ground, above dank party basements. Don’t get me wrong. I’m with Roscoe, and I’m with Waka. But, I think classical music deserves a chance, too.

Painters, illustrators and sculptors rarely come forth and outright explain the meaning of their art, so why are musicians doing it so often?

Your mom is scrolling on Facebook when a Temu advertisement for a graphic T-shirt comes across her feed. Her eyes light up, and she immediately sends you the link with a text, saying “This is so neat! Look how cheap it is.” You click on the link and it reveals hundreds of kitschy shirts for under $10.

I’ve always thought the greatest moments in life exist in the mundane. There’s so much love in the little things. When I think about my favorite memories, I find myself engulfed in the smell of strong filter coffee shared with my parents while an old romantic comedy plays in the background.

For decades now, scientists have been warning of an impending global climate disaster in need of urgent action. The topic of climate change is one many people at this point may be tired of hearing about.

It’s 5 p.m. on a Monday. It’s 33 degrees, you just got out of three back-to-back classes, and somehow it’s already dark out. You envision your destination, the promised land. It’s Cockroach City and black mold mecca: South Campus.

More than 123 million people tuned in to watch the Super Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 11. My Instagram feed was flooded with Chiefs-Niners content — posts breaking down Travis Kelce’s fight with his coach and what Taylor Swift decided to wear.

I recently opened my phone and was met with the all-too-familiar “Do you know this guy at UNC, I just met him” text from one of my friends. If I were less experienced with the art of gossip, I may have just ignored her. However, her asking allowed me to give her the all-clear — letting her know he is in fact not a creep — and she felt comfortable and safe enough to go on a date with him.

Entering college is an opportunity to explore yourself and your future. It is a chance to form new connections, explore new interests, to possibly redefine who you are in a new environment. This is beneficial in a social sense, but attempting to apply this principle in an academic context is more difficult at UNC, especially regarding choosing your major.

It seems like every season is internship season. While some of my friends are securing their internships for this summer, others are already being interviewed for positions for next year while researching for 2025 at the same time.

This month, storefronts dripping in various hues of red and pink grapple for the attention of those who eagerly anticipate, or possibly dread, Valentine's Day.

In the days leading up to the basketball game against Duke last Saturday, the entire UNC-Chapel Hill campus united by a shared hatred of Duke. I dreamed of rushing Franklin Street — yet when we did, the victory felt tainted. All day I’d seen posters and social media comments ridiculing Jared McCain, Duke’s first-year guard, about his painted nails with homophobic comments regarding his masculinity.

For as long as I can remember, I have sat in front of the TV to see if my favorite artists would win in their categories during awards season. While some artists rightfully get their flowers each year, it seems like Black and other minority artists are constantly snubbed of these coveted awards.

I’m not sure why I was expecting an email or acknowledgement of Black History Month from the University on Feb. 1. Although it would have been nice to receive a message from our new interim chancellor, it’s not like there’s a precedent for that kind of thing.

I absolutely adore TED-Ed. It was a comfort for me during the pandemic and it made me feel like I was gaining brain cells instead of losing them.
