UNC baseball sees season end with 2-1 loss to Davidson

UNC baseball came within inches of at least keeping its season alive for one more inning. Instead, the Tar Heels, the No. 2 national seed making its first appearance in the NCAA Tournament since 2014, are done for the season after losing to Davidson 2-1 Sunday night at Boshamer Stadium.

North Carolina baseball team extends its season with 8-1 win over Michigan

The North Carolina baseball team took the field Saturday for the 61st time this season. The warm summer sun and home crowd at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill provided a relaxed setting for a college baseball game. But this game wasn’t like the first 60, and whatever comfort the setting provided for the team was overshadowed by the stakes. With one loss already in the double elimination bracket of the NCAA Regional, one more loss would force UNC to witness the end of its season.

This wasn’t how North Carolina baseball’s return to the NCAA Tournament was expected to start. Regional preview: Davidson Wildcats prepare like it's any other game

DAVIDSON, N.C. — In this week’s practices, the Davidson Wildcats will not swing their bats any faster than usual. They will not throw the ball any harder than usual. There will be no new drills. In fact, a player could write down the same practice and pregame routines the baseball team has followed all season, and that schedule would be spot-on for how Davidson will prepare for its first NCAA Tournament game in its 115-year history.

North Carolina baseball ends ACC tournament with championship loss

After three days of offensive firepower at Louisville Slugger Field, the No. 2 North Carolina baseball team fell flat. UNC was shut out through the final seven innings of its 7-3 ACC title game loss to Florida State. The loss was just the fourth in 22 games for the Tar Heels (47-12), who were averaging close to 12 runs per game in their three prior tournament games.
