UNC fencing team perform well in Illinois despite snowy distraction

The North Carolina fencing team had a snowy weekend, traveling to Evanston, Illinois for the Northwestern Dual Meets. Fourteen teams, including highly ranked Notre Dame, Princeton, and Temple competed on Saturday and Sunday. The team finally made it back to Chapel Hill Monday after more than a foot of snow made the roads unsafe for travel

Members of the North Carolina fencing team arrived in Kentucky this past Friday, eager to put on strong performances at the 2014 North America Cup set to run through Monday afternoon.

Gillian Litynski falls short in fencing match

Student-Athlete.Those two words were carefully and deliberately placed to show the priority that academics hold over athletics for the millions of college athletes who juggle school and sports. Junior fencer Gillian Litynski chose to put “student” before “athlete”. Litynski, a global studies and nursing double major, studied abroad in Israel for the fall of 2013 . Despite being gone for a large portion of the season, she was still able to qualify for and compete in the NCAA Fencing Championship this past weekend . Litynski finished eighth overall in the women’s sabre . This came as some disappointment to Litynski, who finished third overall in the same event last year . However, Litynski said it was all worth it.

4 UNC fencers head to NCAA Tournament

Although the North Carolina fencing team qualified four fencers for the NCAA Championships in San Antonio, Texas, this weekend, sophomore Gill Litynski will travel alone.
