UNC track and field breaks records at final event before ACC Championships

On Feb. 17, 1974, UNC's Tony Waldrop set an indoor mile world record of 3:55. Forty-four years later, the 2018 North Carolina men's and women's track and field teams set some records of their own. In the UCS Invitational this past weekend in Winston-Salem, UNC took first place in two events and second in two others. It was the team's final event of the indoor regular season before the ACC indoor track and field championships.

UNC track and field has strong individual performances, mixed results at Notre Dame Invitational

The North Carolina track and field teams headed to South Bend on Saturday to compete in the Notre Dame Invitational. The women placed second out of seven schools with 86 points and the men placed fifth out of six schools with 71 points. Heptathlete Will Eskew and high jumpers Nicole Green and Draven Crist also had strong performances at the Clemson Invitational over the weekend.

Kenny Selmon runs the fourth-fastest 400-meter hurdle time in the world this year at ACC Championships

Kenny Selmon is a junior hurdler for the North Carolina track and field team who won his first ACC championship over the weekend in Atlanta, Ga. His 48.76 in the 400-meter hurdles is an NCAA No. 1 mark and ranks No. 2 in the United States and No. 4 in the world this season. Selmon spoke with staff writer James Tatter about the significance of his title, the nerves of running in front of his hometown crowd, his future ambitions in the event and his text to UNC 400-meter hurdles record-holder Ken Harnden after his race.
