Women's soccer

WINSTON-SALEM —  Striker Casey Nogueira recorded the UNC women’s soccer team’s third hat trick in the past four games in a 4-2 win against No. 16 Wake Forest on Sunday.

It was the second hat trick of Nogueira’s career, as she also had a three-goal performance on Sept. 20, 2007 in a 5-0 Tar Heel win against Ohio State.

The Tar Heels have 17 goals in four wins against ACC opponents.

Volleyball

The Tar Heel volleyball team fell to Duke 3-1 on Friday and in straight sets to Wake Forest on Saturday to drop to 2-2 in conference play and end a three-match winning streak.

And UNC coach Joe Sagula was not pleased with his team’s performance.

“We were just disappointed at some little things,” he said. “Simple passing mistakes, a whole lot of outside hitting errors — that killed us.”

Basketball

Lil Wayne announced this week on his blog for ESPN the Magazine that UNC is his favorite college basketball team, ever since he discovered Michael Jordan at the age of 9.

“I’m a North Carolina fan to death. All the Dukies are gonna be mad at me, but I can’t lie,” he wrote.

“I’ve been a UNC fan since Ronald Curry and Julius Peppers were playing basketball. Actually, I’m just playin’. It’s been way longer than that.”

Football

ATLANTA — Bruce Carter is one of four players nominated for the AT&T All-America Player of the Week after his performance against UConn.
