Once upon a time, major league baseball players thrived in Chapel Hill. Author Anne R. Keene recently released a book, titled "The Cloudbuster Nine," about a team of MLB players who played while at a Navy training school at UNC in 1943. The team of fighter pilots never had their story told until now, by Keene, the daughter of their bat boy.
The Carolinas clashed on Tuesday night as the North Carolina softball team fell to No. 24 South Carolina, 5-0, in Columbia, S.C. It was the first of the Tar Heels’ six road games. The Tar Heels fell to 5-5 after their third loss in a row.
On Feb. 17, 1974, UNC's Tony Waldrop set an indoor mile world record of 3:55. Forty-four years later, the 2018 North Carolina men's and women's track and field teams set some records of their own. In the UCS Invitational this past weekend in Winston-Salem, UNC took first place in two events and second in two others. It was the team's final event of the indoor regular season before the ACC indoor track and field championships.

The North Carolina swimming and diving teams headed to Durham on Saturday for their last dual meet in the regular season. Both teams kept it close, but ultimately fell to Duke on their senior night. The No. 21 women lost to Duke, 151-149, and the men fell 157.5-142.5.
The North Carolina track and field teams headed to South Bend on Saturday to compete in the Notre Dame Invitational. The women placed second out of seven schools with 86 points and the men placed fifth out of six schools with 71 points. Heptathlete Will Eskew and high jumpers Nicole Green and Draven Crist also had strong performances at the Clemson Invitational over the weekend.
