Justin Robinette files complaint against Duke University

After six months of wrangling with Duke University administration over his harassment claims, senior Justin Robinette has filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education against the school. The complaint contends that administrators discriminated against him because he is gay and failed to take appropriate action when he claimed he was being harassed by students and fellow members of the Duke College Republicans.

Duke cancels tailgate after unconscious minor found in portable toilet

The raucous tailgate party before football games at Duke University has been canceled after an underage teenager was found unconscious in a portable toilet following Saturday’s celebrations. The tailgate tradition started in 2003 and has since evolved into a university-wide event complete with costumes, alcohol, loud music and, more recently, regulations from the Duke administration.

Burr wins re-election handily

Sen. Richard Burr has won re-election to his seat, defeating N.C. Secretary of State Elaine Marshall. Burr is leading Marshall with 55 percent of the vote to her 42 percent with 93 of 100 counties reporting.

N.C. debuts new ballots for midterm elections

With early voting underway, voters across the state are seeing a ballot unlike any they’ve seen before. Every ballot in the state features a section of instant runoff voting, which is meant to eliminate the need for a second runoff election.

David Price's history an asset in race

After 20 years representing the 4th district in the U.S. House of Representatives, Rep. David Price has dealt with many ups and downs during elections. But this year, Price — a Democrat originally from Tennessee — said his most formidable threat is not his opponent or his platform, but the economy. This fall, Price is facing his 13th Republican challenger since being elected in 1987. Thus far he has been highly successful, winning 12 of those contests, but the political climate could make this fall’s election unique, he said.
