It is 1994, and the jersey-clad hopeful waits to hear his name.

“At guard,” a voice says, “From the University of North Carolina…”

LEXINGTON, KY — For the second time this season, No. 10 North Carolina found itself matched up in a hostile environment against a bruising, physical team.

And for the second time, the Tar Heels struggled in the post.

Deon Thompson, Ed Davis, Marcus Ginyard and Tyler Zeller are UNC’s top four scorers. All are forwards. And all score primarily in the paint.

The North Carolina men's basketball team does not play again until Thursday night against Ohio State in New York City, but there will still be some UNC basketball played tonight in the Smith Center.

The Tar Heels' JV basketball team hosts Dudley High School at 7 p.m. in a matchup which features several connections to the varsity program.

The UNC JV men’s basketball team pulled out a tight victory, defeating Davidson County Community College 81-69 on Sunday afternoon.

The Tar Heels jumped out to an early lead and held a slim lead for most of the first half. UNC was unable to pull away at the start of the second half, and DCCC was able to keep the lead in single digits.

The UNC JV men’s basketball team dominated Mt. Olive College in a 126-50 win Wednesday night.

After a sloppy start, The Tar Heels quickly settled in and smothered the Trojans defensively. They allowed few easy shots and forced a lot of turnovers. They used their size and length to really bother Mt. Olive.

“We really kept it up all game,” said D.J. Johnston, a 6-4 junior from Lower Gwynedd, Pa. “It’s tough to keep your head in the game when you’re winning by that much.”

The Tar Heels were also impressive offensively. Crisp passes, open three-pointers, and eye-popping alley-oop dunks were all included as elements of the Tar Heels’ offensive repertoire.
