Larry Drew II

Sophomore point guard Larry Drew II spent 2008-09 as the freshman backup to ACC player of the year Ty Lawson. He only averaged 9.6 minutes per game, but he did finish the season with a 1.6 assist-to-turnover ratio. Drew will be expected to fill Lawson's role as point guard next season. A standout in high school for Woodland Hills Taft (Calif.) High School, Drew won the McDonald's All-Star game three-point shooting contest. He also comes from a stellar pedigree, as his father, Larry Drew Sr., played 10 seasons in the NBA and was a first-round draft pick in 1980.

In his first season starting, Drew II has established himself as a leading assist-man, averaging 6.4 assists per game.

Unfortunately, the giant snowstorm that hit northern Virginia and Maryland also snowed under our chances to drive up for UNC's basketball game Sunday at 2. Never fear though, we'll be watching from here and doing some liveblog action on the website and we'll have coverage during the afternoon.

But for the moment, here's a few story lines to watch during the game Sunday.

Larry Drew II helped lead the Tar Heels to a 80-73 victory against Nevada.

For 30 minutes Sunday night, No. 11 North Carolina (6-1) exhibited symptoms of a turkey hangover in its 80-73 victory against Nevada (2-3), fitting of the game’s post-Thanksgiving timing.

NEW YORK — Roy Williams said he’s spent much of this season chewing out sophomore point Larry Drew II.

Whatever he’s saying, it seems to be working.

When Ohio State made a late-game run, Drew was put on the spot again and again — and he answered just enough times to push UNC to a win.
