UNC students dedicated more than 1 million hours of time to service projects in the 2008-09 school year.
Those efforts helped earn the school a 2009 Presidential Award for General Community Service last week, the highest federal recognition a college can receive for its commitment to service work.
In the spirit of service that is felt throughout the University, The Daily Tar Heel has launched a new Web site, Heels Help, which we hope will serve as a central place to link volunteers with all the many service organizations offered in the community.
Service is a huge part of our student body, but there’s not a place for groups to share what they’re doing and seek help. We’re hoping that Heels Help will fill this void.
Above all, we want Heels Help to meet the needs of this community. We welcome any ideas for how to make the site more inclusive of all the types of service UNC students and the Chapel Hill-Carrboro community are involved with.
