2012 North Carolina Governor’s Race
Since Democrat Walter Dalton and Republican Pat McCrory raised a total of $9 million between Jan. 1, 2011, and June 30, 2012, in their gubernatorial campaigns, The News & Observer launched an interactive map that displays campaign contributions by county. According to the map, McCrory is outfundraising Dalton in about three-fourths of the state.

NFL, referees reach deal to end lockout plan to get back to work Thursday in Baltimore
“The National Football League completed an eagerly awaited deal with its referees Wednesday night to end its lockout of the sport’s regular officials and pave the way for them to return to the field immediately.

The league and the NFL Referees Association announced they had agreed to an eight-year labor pact and planned for the regular officials to work Thursday night’s game in Baltimore between the Ravens and the Cleveland Browns. They are to officiate a full slate of games Sunday.”

Trustees may kick off search for new chancellor
The Board of Trustees may announce the members of the search committee that will find UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp’s replacement today.

The new search committee will do work that will define the core of the University for the next decade, said chemistry professor Joe Templeton, who served on the 2008 chancellor’s search committee as chairman of the faculty.
