The rules and judiciary committee of Student Congress passed a bill Tuesday that would reorganize Title VI of the Student Code.
The committee clarified certain vague sections of the bill including when and where a candidate can publicly declare candidacy.
The discussion of signatures led to the idea of increasing the time period to collect signatures from five days to seven, mimicking last year’s election rules.
Student Body President Hogan Medlin has objected to the five-day period, saying it was not long enough.
Committee chairman Zack De La Rosa proposed a bill that would completely remove Title VII of the Code. The section regulates the Carolina Athletic Association.
De La Rosa said the section was unnecessary, given that the organization operates autonomously.
The bills approved by the committee will move to the full Student Congress on Oct. 26.
