7, meet 4 and 10: Google introduces new Nexus models

L0erh.png

Torn between buying Amazon’s or Apple’s products for your loved ones (read: yourself)? Get ready for another option. This afternoon, Google unveiled the Nexus 4 smartphone and Nexus 10 tablet, joining the already released Nexus 7.

The Nexus 10 wages war with the newest iPad. Each tablet has similar specs, including that sweet resolution, but the Nexus 10 will retail starting at $399. With only slight variations in weight, size and battery life between the two tablets, will the Nexus 10’s lower price sway new consumers? We’ll find out during the holidays, as Google’s biggest tablet comes to market on Nov. 13th. It doesn’t look like preorders are happening from Google’s site, but keep your eyes open in case anything changes.

Not to be overshadowed, the Nexus 4 is Google’s newest smartphone. While the specs look great, the bigger story may be that it’s being sold unlocked, allowing users to avoid a terrible two-year contract. The Nexus 4 starts at $299, $100 more expensive than the iPhone 5 and more costly than most new Android phones, but for an unlocked device, the price is great. It’ll be available on Nov. 13th as well.
