UNC Board of Governors Chair Hannah Gage and UNC President Erskine Bowles applaud Chancellor Holden Thorp during Sunday's University Day ceremony on Polk Place. The ceremony featured the presentation of distinguished alumni, remarks by community and state leaders, and the official installation of Thorp as the tenth chancellor of the University. An estimated 2,750 people attended the event.

Good Morning America Weekend Edition co-anchor Kate Snow films against a backdrop of avid Obama supporters during a broadcast from Carroll quad early Saturday morning. As a part of an effort to gauge the political climate on college campuses in all 50 states, the morning news show filmed from different UNC campus locations throughout the week. Although filming began at 7 o'clock, students and other members of the surrounding community began organizing and lining up at 5:30 am. Both Obama and McCain supporters lined the walkways and steps of surrounding buildings for a chance to appear on national television.
