Tar Heels Manhandle Volunteers in 5-2 Win

UNC (6-0) was led by senior midfielder Jena Kluegel, who scored twice and added an assist. Freshman striker Anne Morrell also scored twice.

Tennessee (4-3) became the first team to score on the Tar Heels this season as the Lady Volunteers tallied a pair of goals in the final 16 minutes of the match.

Sophomore midfielder Maggie Tomecka scored her second goal of the year on a header from the left side in the seventh minute of the game for the first of UNC's four first-half goals.

Just 8:24 into the second half the Tar Heels made it 5-0 as Morrell scored her second goal of the game.

At the 74:09 mark the Lady Vols broke through to score the first goal of the season against UNC.

Striker Kim Patrick scored on a penalty kick. Patrick is a transfer who played a key role as a reserve forward on UNC's NCAA championship teams in 1999 and 2000. She transferred to Tennessee after last season with the blessing of the UNC program.
