Robbery Attempt Occurs at El Patio Loco

Reports state that a subject entered the establishment, located at 407 W. Franklin St., at about 6:22 p.m., at which point the subject displayed a handgun and then demanded money.

Beth Pozner, an employee at El Patio Loco, said the subject was a black male, roughly 5 feet 7 inches tall and in his mid-20s. Pozner also said the subject had a medium build, short hair, a slight mustache and was wearing a navy hooded sweatshirt with dark pants.

Pozner said the man immediately seemed suspicious. "He came in and looked around for a while and tried to order a beer," Pozner said.

Pozner said the subject then displayed a handgun and asked her to give him the money in the cash register.

Pozner said she told the man that the register was empty. Upon hearing this, the subject demanded that she open the register, Pozner said.

When she opened the register with no money inside, the subject left the restaurant, she said.

Jorge Diaz, the manager of El Patio Loco, said he chased the subject but was unable to capture him. He said he called police after the subject escaped.

Valerie Foushee, administrative support supervisor for the Chapel Hill Police Department said police reports did not indicate that the subject took anything from the scene. The case is under further investigation.
