In flight one, North Carolina's Marlene Mejia held her ground in the second set to win the tiebreaker and stay alive against 14th-ranked Kim Niggemyer. She went on to claim the third set and win the match 1-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2.
UNC's Lee Bairos swept Courtney Jantz 6-1, 6-0 at flight six to claim the fourth point of the day for the Tar Heels and clinch the victory.
Kate Pinchbeck and Aniela Mojzis also swept their opponents in singles play to claim the rest of the Tar Heels' points.
