Senior to Donate Voice To Distinguished Arts Series

And come Sunday, he will be doing it all again for men and women at the Chapel Hill Senior Center.

Taylor will be performing as part of the senior center's Distinguished Artists Series. Sponsored by Friends of the Chapel Hill Senior Center, the series raises money to benefit activities of the center as well as aid the Chapel Hill Department on Aging in paying the center's rent and utility bills.

"This is the third year of the Distinguished Artists Series," said Rhoda Wynn, chairwoman of the organizing committee for the Distinguished Artists Series.

Since September, the series has featured one musical performance each month. Among the other groups that have performed are The Evergreen Singers from Long Leaf Opera and The Meadow Singers from the Carolina Meadows retirement home.

Wynn said she is looking forward to hearing Taylor sing some old classics like "Old Man River" and said she feels confident the seniors will enjoy him also. "They'll be tapping their foot and wanting to sing along," Wynn said.

Taylor, who is known around the Triangle for singing at weddings and parties, said he isn't sure which songs he will be performing yet. But he guarantees that those who come Sunday are in for a treat. "I better not say, but I might have a surprise," he said.

Taylor said he is glad to be performing for free at the senior center because he is a senior citizen as well and doesn't mind donating his time and efforts to the Distinguished Artists Series. But the retired educator said he also hopes to snag a job by doing the show.

"I am hoping that somebody might come to this and can use my services," Taylor said.

Wynn said everybody interested in good music and food should join the seniors Sunday to hear Taylor. "It's an opportunity to treat oneself to a wonderful performance with the funds going to important activities of the Chapel Hill Senior Center," she said.
