Today is the very last day to request an absentee ballot for the Nov. 2 election

TO THE EDITOR:

To all absentee voters voting in North Carolina: today is the last day to request an absentee ballot. In order to vote absentee, you must contact your local county board of elections to request a ballot. Contact information for each N.C. county's board of elections can be found at http://www.sboe.state.nc.us/about/directors.asp.

To all voters registered in Orange County: Early voting at the Morehead Planetarium and Carrboro Town Hall will be open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Saturday.

For all other absentee voters: Each state has its own policy on absentee voting ranging from Ohio, in which voters must request a ballot no less than ten days before the election, to Virginia, in which you can download the application and mail it in up to five days before the election.

Contact information for each state's board of elections can be found at http://activote.speakout.com/resources.asp.

Nonpartisan voter's guides published by VoteCarolina are now available. Look for them on campus in libraries, residence halls, the Student Union and in many of the academic halls.

These guides provide information on voters' rights, local precincts, how to vote Nov. 2, candidates on the ballot in Orange County and great links to more information. In the guide, you'll also find a schedule of the transportation services that we'll be providing every 20 minutes from campus to off-campus polling locations.

Spread the word: One week from today, all voting will be complete. Get informed, get your friends together and get out the vote.
