Sen. Obama would reduce taxes on the middle class

TO THE EDITOR:

In Friday's debate Sen. Obama spoke clearly and forcefully about the challenges of working Americans yet Sen. McCain failed to mention the middle class even once. We can't afford four more years of the same anti-regulation trickle-down philosophy that has given us record budget deficits 1 million lost jobs and the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression.

Republicans are warning that Obama will raise your taxes.

However unless your family makes more than $250000 a year that is simply false.

Obama will roll back the Bush tax cuts for the wealthiest 2 percent while giving 95 percent of families a tax cut. The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center concluded that Obama's tax plan would provide middle-class families with three times more tax relief than McCain's. Additionally Obama will eliminate capital gains taxes for small business cut corporate taxes for firms that invest and create jobs in America and provide tax credits to reduce the cost of health care. These policies reflect a candidate who prioritizes working Americans not just those with wealth and access.

We need a president who understands that the economic crisis in America hit Main Street long before it hit Wall Street.
