WEDNESDAY" SEPT. 10 1:21 p.m. - North Carolina sophomore swimmer Allison Barnes was taken to UNC Hospitals after becoming ill at a practice Thursday afternoon the Department of Athletics said today. Steve Kirschner associate director of athletics for communications" told The (Raleigh) News & Observer that Barnes was pulled out of the pool by her coaches who called 911. The N&O; reported that Barnes was in critical condition Tuesday night. When reached for comment" Kirschner and hospital officials would not give details about the swimmer's condition.
