TO THE EDITOR:
The quote by President John F. Kennedy that Robert Johnson uses in his letter to the editor (Sen. Obama should take a page out of JFK's book" Sept. 29) is one of the most misused quotes of all time.
There is no comparison between the tax cuts that Kennedy wanted to implement and the cuts in Sen. McCain's tax policy.
David Shreve, a professor at the University of Virginia, examined Kennedy's tax cut in-depth in a 2001 article. He found that Kennedy's cuts were aimed at demand. Any supply-side effects were deemed simply derivative.""
Kennedy's tax cuts were aimed at working and middle class Americans in an attempt to stimulate spending and achieve full employment" similar to the tax cuts that Sen. Obama is proposing today. As was stated in Johnson's letter to the editor these tax cuts worked in the face of tremendous supply-side pressure from business leaders and corporations.
I agree with Mr. Johnson. Let's take a page out of JFK's book balancing the budget and stimulating economic growth. Vote Obama. It's the smart choice.
