Third-party candidates deserve DTH's coverage

TO THE EDITOR:

The writers on the Tar Heel as well as those at other student papers represent the future of journalism in America. So it is with great disappointment that I see them adopting the same flaws as their predecessors when it comes to campaign coverage.

For weeks most recently in the Spanish language section the Tar Heel has provided well-researched summaries of the platforms of some but not all of the candidates.

On North Carolina's ballot we have three major Libertarian party candidates (senator governor and lieutenant governor) as well as a Libertarian and Green Party member running for president. Instead of giving a fair unbiased account of all candidates the Tar Heel like the majority of newspapers across the country refuses to provide equal coverage to legitimate third party candidates.

I urge all North Carolina residents to visit Libertarian gubernatorial candidate Mike Munger's Web site at munger4ncgov.com Real change will come from the inclusion of third party candidates in the political process and that change can only be achieved through fair media coverage.
