The Daily Tar Heel

Student Body President J.J. Raynor's idea of implementing a late-night Chapel Hill-Carrboro bus route is an excellent proposal. This bus will be useful to the large number of underserved students living in the Carrboro area.

The C2C was one of Raynor's major platform points when she ran for student body president at UNC. She should continue to push it until we see the C2C concept come to fruition.

Despite the significant number of students living in the Carrboro area there is a notable lack of transportation to campus and back from West Franklin Street and Carrboro.

Safety is particularly important at night for party revelers who have few transportation options besides walking the distance between Chapel Hill and Carrboro late at night or taking an expensive taxi.

The C2C would be part of the Safe Ride bus system which currently runs from 11 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. Thursday through Saturday but only throughout Chapel Hill not Carrboro.

The objective of the Safe Ride program is to increase the overall safety of the campus community but it can't fully achieve this goal without looking past the students who live in dorms and near campus.

No definite decisions have been made about the project but student government will meet with town officials Nov. 19 to discuss costs and other logistics.

Safe Ride ridership has increased this year which is a testament to its importance. The C2C would be another step in the right direction to increasing safety for all UNC students — on campus and off.

Raynor and student government should continue to work hard to make this project a reality.
