QB Sexton will graduate in May

12:30 P.M." WEDNESDAY JAN. 14 -- North Carolina quarterback Cameron Sexton informed the coaching staff earlier this week that he will graduate from UNC in May with a degree in communications.  Sexton an academic senior who started six games in 2008" has one year of football eligibility remaining and will explore his options for continuing his playing career next season.
 
""I love the University of North Carolina and could not have earned a degree and played football at a better institution" Sexton said.  I want to thank the people who supported me throughout my career especially my parents my teammates and my coaches.  I always wanted to earn a degree from North Carolina" and I've had an awesome experience in Chapel Hill.""
 
NCAA rules prevent a player with one year of eligibility remaining to transfer to another Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) or Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) program. If Sexton transfers to a Division II school after graduating from UNC"" he would be immediately eligible for the 2009 season.

Sexton" a native of Laurinburg N.C. came off the bench to start for the Tar Heels after T.J. Yates fractured his ankle in the third game of the year vs. Virginia Tech. Sexton helped guide Carolina to victories over Miami Connecticut Notre Dame Boston College and Georgia Tech. In 2008 he was 94 of 198 for 1261 yards nine touchdowns and six interceptions.  
 
For his career Sexton completed 152 of 305 yards for 2110 yards and threw 13 touchdowns. He played in seven games in 2006 and started five as a redshirt freshman.  
 
Sexton enrolled at North Carolina in 2005 and joined the team in time to participate in UNC's Continental Tire Bowl practices in Charlotte.  He redshirted in 2005 after breaking his ankle in spring practice.
