North Carolina senior forward Rashanda McCants likely suffered a concussion in Monday's second-round loss to Purdue, the UNC athletic department announced today.

Obviously Rashanda didn't have the kind of performance against Purdue that we have come to expect from her" Hatchell said in a statement.

If she was suffering from the effects of even a mild concussion" that certainly would have affected her ability to perform.""

McCants had six points on 3-of-15 shooting and five rebounds in 33 minutes.

""Our athletic trainer examined Rashanda after a play in which she was elbowed and held her out of action for a few minutes"" says Dr. Mario Ciocca, head primary care physician for the team.

In the two days since the game"" she has not felt well. We've continued to monitor her progress and have determined that she likely suffered a concussion.

""She should be fully recovered in a few days.""
