Go green for caffeine: Students should save money by using the 'One Less Cup' initiative

Single-use coffee cups are incredibly wasteful. So students should take advantage of a new University initiative to reduce the number cups we use.

The Office of Waste Reduction & Recycling recently launched a new program called ""One Less Cup"". Students can get a free ""One Less Cup"" sticker for their coffee mugs from several stores on campus.

Students already receive a discount when using their own mug when they purchase coffee. This program helps students keep the option in mind.

Many of the campus coffee shops already had some discount for using a refillable mug.

Participating coffee shops are The Daily Grind in the Student Stores" Alpine Bagel Co. in the Student Union and the Global Cup Café in the FedEx Global Education Center.

For example" Alpine only charges $1.12 to refill a coffee mug.

But the new ""One Less Cup"" initiative offers leadership to what previously has been a piecemeal effort to reduce disposable cup usage.

There are simple ways to become more environmentally sustainable"" like using reusable mugs.

But people don't often jump on board until someone takes leadership and raises awareness.

The ""One Less Cup"" initiative does just that. The stickers will unify students for the cause.

We applaud the Office of Waste Reduction & Recycling's leadership in this initiative.

And we encourage everyone at the University to get a ""One Less Cup"" sticker and slap it on their travel mug.

Everyone needs to do his or her part to make the University more environmentally friendly.

This is an effortless and rewarding way to contribute.
