Sports briefs for April 3

Ty Lawson is the recipient of the 2009 Bob Cousy Award presented by The Hartford the Basketball Hall of Fame announced Thursday.

The Cousy Award is presented to the nation's top collegiate point guard and chosen from a pool of more than 80 candidates and 17 finalists.

Lawson was named the ACC Player of the Year and to the firstteam All-ACC team and second-team All-America by the Associated Press. He is averaging 16 points 6.5 assists and two steals per game this season and shooting 53.8 percent from the field and 47.3 percent from behind the 3-point arc.
