The Daily Tar Heel

TO THE EDITOR:

Tuesday’s editorial “Don’t waste their time,” misread the Association of Student Governments delegation bill passed by Congress two weeks ago. The bill was to reform the outdated and unbalanced way we appoint delegates to ASG.

However, the bill also included the ability for either Student Body President Jasmin Jones or Student Congress Speaker Joe Levin-Manning to appoint full alternates to their positions. These alternates would have the same power either Jones or Levin-Manning would have if they went to ASG.

By signing this bill, Jones gains the power to appoint an alternate to ASG. Currently, she has no such power according to the Student Code. It is the Editorial Board’s prerogative to call for withdrawal from ASG, but please, get your facts right.
