Campaigns must focus on graduate students at UNC

During the coverage of the platforms and campaigns for student body president, there has been much discussion about all that the candidates want to do. Something that is omitted or understated from the candidates’ platforms is issues related to graduate and professional students.

I would like to take this time to remind the candidates about a substantial part of the voting population — graduate and professional students. There are around 8,000 registered graduate students and around 2,400 registered professional students, making up about 40 percent of the total number of enrolled students. While graduate and professional students have their own portion of student government, including a vice president of graduate and professional students in the executive government, to address their needs, the student body president represents all students at Carolina, undergraduate, graduate and professional.
