Organic and locally grown food simply too expensive

TO THE EDITOR:

I am all for the purchasing of organic and locally grown food, but frankly, hardly anyone can afford it.

For example, in the organic section at Food Lion, a jar (normal size) of organic apple sauce was $5.97. That is totally outrageous!

I can buy almost six jars of regular applesauce for that price. If this is locally grown, and using no chemicals it should be cheap. No shipping from afar. No middle man.

We as Americans need to do something about this. It is not fair for eating healthy to cost four to five times as much as eating food full of chemicals and not grown locally.

Someone is getting rich here and it is not us regular people. I have a family with two teens and there is no way I can afford organic or locally grown.
