The Daily Tar Heel

TO THE EDITOR:

None of us have super powers or run around in costumes. We can’t all be firemen or police officers. Not everyone is going to join the National Guard or protect civilians in the streets of Iraq.

You can, however, save a life by giving blood.

Every day in emergency rooms across the country and at disaster sites all around the world, lives are saved by transfusions made possible by blood donations from the American Red Cross.

Without the contributions of donors, so many lives would be lost. You may not be a superhero, but the blood you give will literally help save lives.

Today, the UNC American Red Cross Club will be sponsoring a blood drive in the Great Hall from noon to 5 p.m.

There will also be one more bus blood drive April 14 from noon to 5 p.m. in the bus lane in front of the Student Union.

These are the last major blood drives of the spring semester. There is always an increased need for donations during the summer, so these two drives are as important as ever.

We need to have a strong start to a tough season, and we could use your help.

We encourage you to schedule an appointment to donate online at www.unc.givesblood.org, but walk-in donations are also welcome.

Remember, for just a few minutes of your time you could help save a life.
