The iPad debuted April 3. Scores lined up during the middle of the day to get one. (Yay for unemployment.) We wrote this QuickHit on our new iPad, and we only had to trample six people in order to get it.

Census day

April 1 was National Census Day. The rumor is that President Obama will address the nation this week to explain the mandatory detention programs — made possible by census data — to begin shortly.

KFC Double Down

KFC has introduced a new “sandwich.” It has two pieces of chicken in place of buns and is filled with bacon and cheese.  You can eat your heart out — literally. You’ll need a heart transplant after just one.

LSU brewery

LSU announced plans to consider adding a beer brewing class. And then you can further your education at Michigan’s cannabis college. Finally, some official recognition for what most people already spend most of their collegiate days doing.

Obama first pitch

President Obama threw out the first pitch on baseball’s opening day. The pitch started out straight, down the middle of the plate but then veered way off to the far left. Who said first pitches can’t be political?

411 West fire

The popular Chapel Hill eatery caught fire on Sunday. Officials said the minor blaze probably started in the kitchen. The restaurant was immediately evacuated thanks to town policy: If you can’t handle the heat, get out of the kitchen.
