The Daily Tar Heel

TO THE EDITOR:

You may or may not be aware that the peer advising program is expanding to new departments and trying to make this valuable resource more readily apparent on departmental Web sites after a substantial mid-year review of the program’s progress.

I encourage all students, especially underclassmen, to utilize your peer advisers — they are there for you. These undergraduate advisers can be invaluable but reassuringly informal resources and liaisons as you try to map your major course of study.

If your department does not have peer advisers, do not hesitate to ask your department if it has plans to join the peer advising program.

On behalf of the executive branch of Student Government, I invite all interested students to apply to become peer advisers.

Peer advisers should be knowledgeable about their program, be willing to commit a few hours each month to advising other students, and, most of all, be friendly and approachable.

The application period is open now through April 12, and the application form can be found on the front page of the student government Web site.
