The Orange County Board of Commissioners decided they didn’t have enough information to draw a definite conclusion on the collaboration of the Chapel Hill and Orange County public libraries at Tuesday night’s meeting.
The three-county system would allow library card holders to only need one card as opposed to multiple. The card could be used at any of the system branches.
“Long-term interoperability is the only way you’re going to get one size fits all,” Munger said.
But due to the renovations being completed on the Chapel Hill Public Library, a collaboration would not be able to take place until November 2012.
Residents approved a more than $16.2 million library expansion project in 2003, but it was delayed due to economic difficulties. This summer, the Chapel Hill Town Council approved a bond sale that allowed the project to proceed.
Board member Mike Nelson said that the board has not had enough time to discuss criteria.
“We haven’t done a clear analysis.”
