The Daily Tar Heel

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — North Carolina fought back from a 10-point second-half deficit to beat Virginia 62-56 in the Tar Heels’ ACC opener.

Junior forward Tyler Zeller hit two sets of clutch free-throws to tie the game at 50-50 and his team took it from there. Zeller finished with 12 points in 30 minutes of action.

Virginia connected on 53.6 percent of its shots in the first half but cooled off noticeably in the second half, making only six fields goals for a 26.1 percentage.

UNC endured a 16-2 Virginia run at the end of the first half to go into intermission down 37-30.

The Tar Heels (11-4, 1-0 ACC) will play host to Virginia Tech on Jan. 13.
